We have all been tracking the EOs (Executive Orders) from the start of the current administration, including a raft of anticipated EOs last week targeting the nonprofit sector. While these did not appear and some are breathing a sign of relief, this does not mean a stand-down in threat to the work of civil society and the nonprofit sector.
In fact, the strategy of the government is now to pursue these attacks through actual legislative action in Congress. In many ways, this is worse than the government’s EOs, most if not all of which have been unlawful, as the administration is now trying to hobble the sector legally. It’s essential that we not flag in our organizing and resistance efforts and that we apprise ourselves of these and other potential legislative actions impacting nonprofits and sponsors.
Join us for a conversation about the legislative attacks on civic space and nonprofit work and what’s being done to fight back.
