The fiscal sponsorship field is at a critical juncture where some pro-active advocacy may be warranted to address priority needs of sponsors. We also see an opportunity to shift some potentially negative narratives emerging on the landscape toward more powerful case making for fiscal sponsorship.
Our State of the Field Temp Check Report, just released, affirms much of what we have observed in impacts over the last six months, but also provides clear prioritization of practical needs for sponsors. At the same time, we are hearing rumblings of concern from philanthropy over concentrated financial risks in certain corners of our ecosystem, as well as questions over the sustainability of the “fiscal sponsorship model” in light of a few recent fiscal sponsor closings.
We maintain that fiscal sponsors are essential to preserving and nurturing civil society work in the face of rising authoritarianism. We cannot afford for under-informed or false narratives to take root. Ongoing advocacy and action is necessary, and we want your input on perspectives on where to focus!
